In another significant boost for Acupuncturists throughout the U.K., the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) issued its' updated guidance for the treatment of Primary Chronic Pain.
On the 7th of April 2021, NICE published its' most recent review which has advocated that acupuncture should be given serious consideration in the treatment of Primary Chronic Pain, alongside exercise, physical therapy and psychological therapy, while recommending a lesser reliance on pharmacological interventions, including but not limited to paracetamol, NSAIDs (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and opioids. More detailed information can be found on the link above.
This development marks a significant step forward in the recognition of the benefits of acupuncture therapy and would appear to back up the continuing and growing body of research into the effectiveness of acupuncture analgesia and pain management.
